Brief thread re cyclist hate. Mike Graham and his army of mouth-breathers. Can I suggest that Cycling Twitter ignores them? Yes it's hate, yes they're wrong, but it's just the same half-dozen cliches we've all heard a thousand times. 1/
They're thick at best, crazy at worst, and so facts or reason don't interest them. All they're interested in is their feelings, and their feelings are spiteful and misanthropic. Engaging doesn't change their mind, only entrenches the hate. 2/
Cyclists are going to see more of this, in the media and out on the road. Active travel is in the ascendant, and the more a certain breed of authoritarian reactionary feels their way of life is threatened, the more angry they will be at cyclists. 3/
I've experienced more hate on the road, and I'm not the only one @FamilyByCycle. Run a camera, record, report. I used to think helmet camming was a niche activity, but now I'm beginning to realise it's a political activity. It's one of the few things we can do that 4/
make a difference. There are debates to be had about travel politics on Twitter, but not with populist radio presenters. Don't waste your time engaging. Leave them to wallow in their own shit. They're dinosaurs - they'll be extinct soon enough. /end
Sorry just want to add. @peterwalker99 made an excellent attempt at reasoning with Mike Graham last night. He was courteous, but he received nothing meaningful in response. If a professional journalist can't have a good-faith debate with him, the rest of us needn't bother. /end
