In 2016 when Trump said he could shoot someone in the street and people would still vote for him he was right. A sizable portion of his base is willing to die—& we’ve seen the stories about those who believed the virus was fake before succumbing to it—for what Trumpism represents
Trumpism represents the opposition to multiculturalism and globalization (when nonwhites can freely travel & make $$).
People are willing to throw away all facts and be represented by a violent buffoon—even to die themselves—if they can try to beat back multiculturalism.

This is obviously insane + makes the pandemic much worse but this is a problem that isn’t going away. Trumpists refuse to wear a mask and are willing to die for an ideology they can’t even articulate. As the demos shift against them & their pol power dwindles they’ll get angrier
These are people whose entire worldview has been built around people who *look like them* being on top and keeping *others* on the bottom. Since reality fails their worldview, they turn to conspiracy theories and wannabe demagogues.
Before multiculturalism became a serious threat, these were the types of people who believed their politicians had to have some baseline level of competency. Now you can be a corrupt clown, a qanon fool or whatever. Its only going to get worse as the numbers go against them
