I find it interesting that in Canada, most newcomers’ 1st job is working with food - and in particular, for typically low wages. Some open restaurants or other food businesses.
Meanwhile in Malaysia, new immigrants are not permitted to work at or open most types of food business
Relatedly, yrs ago (not sure abt now) Malaysian govt had prog that subsidized opening (and more?) Malaysian restaurants abroad. Presumably to increase tourism.
Unfortunately/understandably, uptake in Canada low - demo’d by few Malaysian restaurants. I wonder abt other outcomes...
