gregory of nyssa has this beautiful passage where he says something like -- people are mutable by nature and god is infinite by nature, therefore since we're always changing and there is always more to know of him, heaven is this kaleidoscope of new, beautiful experiences
the idea here is that union with god isn't static/boring/monotonous, but rather ever-stimulating, always making and remaking us. so fidelity there means accepting the revelation of countless mysteries over time. i've long thought there's something to that
