There’s this line from Moneyball: "The first one through the wall always gets bloody...". Exactly right. So not at all surprised to see these scared, fragile, jealous, intimidated, haters using every weapon in their arsenal against Sen. Harris right now.
But those shrieking panicking insurrectionists aren’t the wall she’s breaking through. The wall always represents the last barrier for the old way—of thinking, of doing, of being. The one who breaks through is a LEADER.
This leader, by breaking through, while shedding figurative and sometimes literal blood, is the proof that the old metric no longer applies. Yes, women can. And will. Yes, Black people can. And will. Yes, Black women can. And will. They will proceed and succeed anyway.
And they won’t have to shuck and jive or kowtow or hang their heads in false deference. They will not be required to dumb themselves down or hold their tongues or hide their ambitions to make insecure people comfortable with their advancement. Those days are past.
So I am praying extra hard this night for Senator Kamala Harris, the leader, the one with a wall-breaking anointing on her life...because I know it’s not her being “too ambitious” with eyes on the presidency that scares them. It’s that she will succeed.
