Context is key
Trailer allegedly dropping tomorrow, let's see if that holds water or nay

This creases me, I did not know this ridiculousness existed
Trailer allegedly coming out with the international release of TENET tomorrow ...
The trailer is not officially out yet, but has leaked and there are grainy stills, cams and "reaction" clips circulating, though I'm still yet to see it myself … this is a glimpse of Stellan Skarsgård as Baron Harkonnen
Me logging on each day to discover I'm still not connected enough to be sent a proper leak of the DUNE trailer
This "Secrets of Dune" public Patreon post has what looks like a relatively complete set of (grainy, cam quality) stills from the trailer.

The visual style is thoroughly Villeneuve and I'm not super inspired, but it looks vast, gothic and consistent. https://www.patreon.com/posts/40899449
This is still my basic take on how this adaptation is shaping up visually. https://twitter.com/attentive/status/1249692916697559041?s=20
A great essay about THERE WILL BE BLOOD and the relationship between the "petroleum complex" and psychoanalysis, and therefore with many reference points relevant to adapting DUNE—a novel which is (often naively) obsessed by both these things. https://twitter.com/rolandbarfs/status/1298981282106314761?s=20
Cam of the teaser trailer is temporarily up at this link.

Reminder that whatever you think of Lynch's adaptation of DUNE, he randomly decided to put a pug in about half of all scenes
Hmm, the link to the trailer above was subject a DMCA takedown. Get a grip, Warner Brothers, I'm doing unpaid hype for you here.
"Walk without rhythm, and you won't attract the—wha?"
Have just sighted my first official "Don't politicise DUNE!" war cry ... look, mate, even Herbert admitted he'd basically written a shaky allegory of colonial oil politics
"ON A PLANET OF SAND … A RESOURCE COVETED BY THE WHOLE UNIVERSE"

Hilariously bad fake DUNE (2020) trailer is … actually good
Not impressed, all cast members, no landscape or spice industry, knock-off Star Wars "quiet bit" in the score … https://twitter.com/Legendary/status/1303362722742976512?s=20
Well, the DUNE trailer is out, so it's no longer possible to escape the fact that Denis Villeneuve is making this film and therefore it won't be amazingly good. This bit looks very nice though.
Watched it again on a larger display and liked the look and some of the details more. The few glimpses of a sandworm are suitably vast. It's a shame about the feeble gloomy colour grading, but hey, it's 2020 and we're apparently in the middle of a global hue recession
Definitely right to wonder why DUNE hasn't cast any MENA actors, on the other hand pointing out "DUNE is problematic" is like shipping coal to Newcastle. https://twitter.com/Lexialex/status/1303737796369158149?s=20
Not only is DUNE Orientalist, haphazardly joining up barely understood things as in its "Zensunni Wanderers", it's eugenicist, has one of the worst Mighty Whities of all time (inspired by Lawrence of Arabia), is grotesquely heteronormative and racist, and dances around fascism
Its last line, "History will remember us as wives!" is even worse in context.

The book series as a whole is a sex-obsessed, drug-fuelled fantasy of transcendence full of offensive nonsense, by a Jungian Californian proto-hippy with a keen hobby interest in comparative religion.
