Military "remains the sole organisation in India that not only functions effectively, but has risen to every occasion"⬇️. Err, a myth has been elevated to tautology by the faithful - performance of Indian mil has been not grtly different frm many other pillars of public service https://twitter.com/rwac48/status/1288654196711989249
Often forgotten is the lavish level of funding - at $71bn, its the 4th largest mil budget in the world. Ergo, its but obvious tht some elements of delivery -often seen in HADR - look more competent. If state police had 100s of choppers/C130/1000s of men, they wud likely do as well
In India, every public utility is critiqued. Mil invariably has a coat-hangar - intelligence failure, political mismngt, lack of equipment. And the society goes to grt lengths to preserve the fig leaf - we even created NSG so tht the mil is shielded frm HR accusations in CT ops!
1973 Yom Kippur - Israeli mil was surprised, but recovered to finally win,at grt cost. Entire Israeli top brass was sacked in the aftermath. Kargil -ditto for us. We splashed out the medals and created war heros in the halo of some genuine heros - young men fighting terrible odds
Mil comes frm the same Indian society as any1 else. We shd subject it to the same tests as the police, BMC, public hospital. Passes the smell test - in a growing democracy, our brightest dont go to mil, which is the choice of 7/8th rung of kids. How can it be terribly better?
