1.7 Yesterday, reported 182 #Covid19 cases, a new daily record. Clearly, we are heading into the eye of the storm. A rise in hospitalizations will surely follow. Two particular subjects will determine the outcome of this phase: hospital capacity and containment measures.

2.7 #Covid19-ready ICU beds in public hospitals are working at almost full capacity. More will be available soon. Can more resources be allocated to the #Covid19 effort? If so, it will be diverted away from the vulnerable non-Covid patients who cannot afford private healthcare.

3.7 The bulk of ICU beds in are in the private hospitals. They have received a minor share of the C-19 critical patients, partly due to insufficient financial coverage. Higher costs due to a falling Lira and delayed payments have forced many hospitals to close or restructure.

4.7 For all the reasons above, doubts remain on how much can increase its hospital capacity. In any case, more affluent countries with bigger capacity were overwhelmed when faced with a large Covid surge. only hope remains in containment. Will the measures taken be enough?

5.7 Many health professionals, myself included, were hoping for a complete lockdown for at least 2 weeks. Authorities, with the economy in mind, opted for a partial lockdown and stricter measures. The incubation period of the means it will take 2 weeks for the effects to show.

6.7 The authorities seem more determined to enforce the measures. Fines and closures have been ordered. We hope to see the much needed public compliance for the measures to work. If they fail, longer total lockdown will be required. People should be warned.

7.7 In summary, whether it is wearing face masks, social distancing, the financial situation, the blackouts, the drums of war, the sweltering heat, or the wretched lockdown, everyone is extremely drained and wants a break. #Covid19 is not listening.
