I know most of you have never heard of the AFFH Rule before Trump started tweeting about it. Please let your takeaway be not just that Trump is racist--though he certainly is--but that a Biden Administration must enforce fair housing vigorously if we are to overcome Trumpism.
This isn't just stuff of election-year posturing. This is serious question of who we want to be as a nation. Trump has made it clear: He is against integrated communities. If that sounds wrong to you--and it should--tossing Trump out isn't enough. We need an active HUD on Day 1.
If we really want to reject Trumpism, we need a DOJ that is vigorously enforcing the Fair Housing Act all over the country. We need a White House that is pushing fair housing hard. We need a Congress that is funding housing initiatives like never before.
If you are appalled by Trump's tweets--and you should be--then you need also to be appalled when your city council or mayor blocks low-income housing because it will "hurt property values" or "risk crime." Did it sound bad coming from Trump? It sounds bad coming from them, too.
Country has had remarkable education lately on racism in policing. Many didn't know what was going on; what they see horrifies them. We need for country similarly to focus on housing. Do you want our policy to be Trump-friendly? If not, we need to push to move on from Trumpism.
