I am going to comment on some issues that I think are important to highlight from the point of view of psychology with respect to animals, and I clarify, for those who have a strongly anthropocentric views, that humans are also animals.

Thread:
There are basic emotions that all animals share phylogenetically:

Fear, joy, sadness, surprise, pleasure, and disgust.

The emotion of the animals cannot be questioned from this point of view.
Since the time of the British naturalist Charles Darwin, the expressions that start from the different emotions are studied as a universal language that we all animals share.
Within Neurosciences, "mirror neurons" are studied, which play important roles within the cognitive capacities linked to social life, such as EMPATHY and imitation.
At the University of Cambridge, a manifesto was signed in 2012 that declares that non-human animals possess CONSCIOUSNESS.

The declaration was signed by eminent neuroscientist and also featured the world-renowned theoretical physicist Stephen Hawkings.
From philosophy, we have the concept of sentience since the 18th century that refers to the capacity to feel.
And again from the Neurosciences, we study the Central Nervous System and the SNP, which are in charge of transmitting us multiple information.
It is difficult to simplify such studied, complex, and interesting questions in a few characters.
What is important to emphasize is that we have the capacity to register one another, and if the basic emotions are universal, when we say "my dog/cat just needs to talk"
It's because we really have the empathy, the capacity and the ability to communicate.
Science has already given us the tools to stop the speciesist discourses, although from common sense, when you see the face of the next victims in line at the slaughterhouse, fear is already reflected in their faces.
They sold us the idea that humans are the center of the universe, and the false and very dangerous pretext that this sense of superiority can be an excuse to oppress those who are different.
We human beings do not manage to live in harmony with the environment, our species transforms everything into a resource and devours everything in its path.
It boasts of the power it exercises over others, creates a continent of plastic in the ocean, and extinguishes different species every day!
The other species are part of the otherness, and of the world we share. They are not here FOR us, they are here WITH us.
This planet also belongs to them. 🌱💚
