Pretty sure MLA Bruce Northrup is entitled to the same 1 month $7k transition allowance no matter when he leaves office - not a 6 month $42k payment under any circumstance. https://twitter.com/tjprovincial/status/1288493381035991042
According to the Legislative Assembly Act any MLA entitled to receive a pension upon leaving office is only eligible for 1 month of transition pay. Period. 6 months transition pay is only for those too young for a pension or who have too few years for a pension.
Northrup is over 60 and has 14 sessions in the Legislature and so is ineligible for a $42k transition allowance no matter when he goes.
The rules were changed following the 2010 election when several long serving MLAs rolled from office into large pensions AND large transition allowances even though they were only transitioning into retirement.
