Wall of Moms started with a social contract: Defer to BLACK voices. Shield BLACK bodies. The people who joined this movement of mothers did so under that understanding. The founder, Bev Barnum, decided to BREAK that social contract. #WallOfGloms

As of today, all POC admins of WOM FB including prominent Black activist @TeressaLRaiford have been removed and @DontShootPdx has been betrayed after legitimizing WOM due to the NOW BROKEN social contract.

Why is this important? THIS IS ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF SOMETHING BUILT ON THE PREMISE OF HELPING BLACK PEOPLE, legitimized by Black people, TAKEN FROM BLACK PEOPLE. #WallOfGloms

Bev directed the Moms to leave the frontlines last night, leaving vulnerable the very Black lives this movement was created to protect. Why? If someone gets hurt her nonprofit could get sued. When did this become about Bev? I thought this was about black lives. #WallOfGloms

Obviously this is not Bev who is tweeting. This is the RESISTANCE making sure that the truth is known about this organization from here forward. #WallOfGloms

If not for the support, leadership, and legitimacy offered to WOM by @TeressaLRaiford and @DontShootPdx the group was faltering. Why? THERE WAS NO BLACK LEADERSHIP. Moms called it out and Bev invited them in to exploit their reach and support for personal gain. #WallOfGloms

Is this confusing? Is this disappointing? Is this heartbreaking? YES. This is also a cautionary tale. To all the Walls groups that have come from this: DO BETTER THAN BEV. Put and KEEP Black people in leadership. DEFER TO THEM. This was not meant to be a “brand”. #WallOfGloms
