ATA is requesting that teachers who are being mandated to perform cleaning duties to get the mandate in writing and forward to ATA member services for guidance.
The teacher's first duty is to teach.

Also, some schools only have part-time custodial staff. These staff need to be on site and accessible full-time which the current UCP government needs to acknowledge and fund.
ATA also would like to negotiate with the government to get more substitute teachers on contract as this support might be necessary in the fall.
59% of teachers responding to a poll said they were 5/5 very concerned about the return to schools under the current plan the UCP has laid out.
Q: About ATA members being liable for complications for students who get COVID.
A: As long as the teacher isn't negligent, they are covered and the ATA has teachers covered. Basically, as long as the teacher is doing their best to minimize risk.
Results from a town hall poll (what concerns you the most):

66% - class size reduction
15% - PPE protocols
10% - substitute teacher/absence management
5% - custodial staff
4% - protection for vulnerable students
ATA stance regarding teachers who may be asked to teach in person and online: Teachers can't be expected to do both. If an in-person teacher is being asked to teach online, the assignment has to be reasonable and instructional time has to be tracked if this is asked.
Q: About teachers mandating masks in the classroom.
A: If a board mandates staff to wear masks/face shields, they have to supply them. If the teacher mandates masks, the teacher has to provide masks.
Town hall has concluded. My takeaway:
-Teachers are very concerned about a scenario 1 launch;
-Majority of teachers prefer scenario 2 (blended);
-Teachers are MOST concerned about class sizes;
-Much of the mandating for masks, etc. has to come from government.
