In retrospect it's obvious the US could not deal effectively with a global deadly pandemic on its soil. Bringing up the counterfactual of President Hillary only highlights the reality that there's no President Hillary because of voter suppression and the electoral college.
If you wanted to, you could not design a more perfect weapon against US society than a highly contagious virus that leaves a lot of people asymptomatic.
The virus spread in the US feeds off the worst anti-social and racist ideology that festers among Americans, the complete lack of civic sense, the secession of the wealthy and owning classes - who are predominantly white and refuse to care about "these people."
People bemoan the fact that the US failed at controlling the virus, but in fact it objectively succeeded. The failure of government, social Darwinism, the war of all against all that only benefits those with inherited power - that was the goal of a certain part of US society.
Once the wealthy realized the virus did not affect them in the same way it affected working people, it was all over. It's biological class warfare. The fact that it intersects with race it's just a bonus to them.
People also say the disaster will affect the country for generations, but that too is a misnomer. The wealthy will be just fine, if not better. Just watch.
"we're all in the same storm but we're not all in the same boat"
So don't fret. It's not the end of America. Quite the contrary, it is the full realization of America.
