People need to stop saying WWE's decline is just like WCW's death, they're completely different in almost every meaningful way. Both awful! But different.
WCW was a flameout of epic proportions. They went from being the hottest wrestling promotion the world had ever seen to dead in the span of three years. WWE has been a long steady decline that due to a monopoly and changing media market, saw them make more money along the way.
Which is worse? Depends on what you value. WCW drove away fans faster, but also faced direct competition in the form of the new hottest wrestling company ever. WWE has spent the last 20 years blundering with little in the way of serious outside threats.
WWE also has the dual advantage/burden over WCW of having a clear unremovable person in charge. No power struggles, no panicked change of who runs the place every 6 months. But also no real shift in the product because of that.
The point is, they're both bad. "Which fucked up worse" is to ask "Is it worse to set yourself on fire and die immediately, or to lock yourself in a mansion, live off your money, and slowly drink yourself into oblivion for two decades".
