Superintendent Carvalho has just announced that starting in August, @MDCPS will be in Stage 1 with all students in My School Online @MiamiSup @UTD_AFT1974 @bccespedes @molly_diallo @akosnitzky @mariatrod664 @msmerrymac10 #mdcpsreopening #education
@MiamiSup has also announced that the district will no longer offer a hybrid model in Stage 2. As such students will either be in My School Online, or Brick and Mortar 5 days a week
All students will be in My School Online until at least October 5th. By September 30th @MDCPS will announce whether or not schools will move to stage 2 reopening, based on local conditions
K-12 will be the online platform used.
I’m glad to see Life Skills, STEM, and Visual & Performing arts classes will be available in BOTH My School Online and My Schoolhouse models! We must protect our electives @MiamiSup @MDCPS
AP/IB/ACE/Dual Enrollment programs will continue to be offered with BOTH My School Online and My School House models. AP/IB/ACE will use Microsoft Teams, while dual enrollment will use the software of their host college (ie. FIU Canvass, MDC Blackboard Learn, etc.)
@MDCPS will offer training for teachers to identify what support students need to make up for gaps in learning and lost instruction, and have developed the Learning Loss Index. Tutoring will be offered to these students in both the My School Online and Schoolhouse Models
The Learning Loss Index will be used specifically for ELL students and students with disabilities to better develop their individualized learning plans as part of each student’s IEP
Title I funds will be used by schools to assign teachers after school hours to offer homework help and additional interventions to targeted students. FIU has also reached out help implement online tutoring programs to students
@MDCPS is exploring launching an initiative similar to Chicago’s Digital Equity Initiative, which brought internet access to 100,000 Chicago Public School students
During stage 1, meal distributions will be provided at schools in the afternoon during designated days so that students can pick up multiple days worth of meals. During stage 2, this will continue, with School House Model students eating at their local schools
When it comes to Bus Transportation during stage 2, only one student will be allowed per row, face covering will be required, and hand sanitizer stations will be installed in all busses
@MDCPS is committed to social and emotional learning and mental health wellness offerings throughout the school reopening process. They are also launching a mental health hotline for parents and students that will be available throughout the school week.
Physical counseling will be available for students at their school site while ensuring that proper health measures will be followed to prevent putting any students at risk of COVID-19
All meals will be served in single use containers. All food service staff will be given the proper PPE including face masks, goggles, and gloves.
@MDCPS has purchased enough thermometers to offer one to every family, guaranteeing that every student can do a daily self-check for COVID-19 symptoms
@MDCPS will be proving professional development & training to all teachers on the new K-12 platform, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom. Unclear what the dates will be for these sessions at this time
The district will also be proving family support and assistance with technology to help parents become familiarized with the new technology platforms being used by their children
