Maybe unpopular truth: if you’ve never had a private conversation which you didn’t pay to make happen, the person isn’t someone you know or have in your life. They can be someone you admire/support but they’re not actually known to you. Boundaries matter. Respect their RL ones.
TBC, I’m ofc not trashing the celeb/fan relationship (nor am I being specific about any fandom or celeb, truly) but there is a line for all of us between I like & follow and admire and thinking there’s an actual robust outside of fandom relationship. We owe observation of lines.
This convo has permeated every fandom I’ve ever been in - a lack of awareness about roles/lines. SM has kinda blurred them and amazing celeb outreach & genuine affection/care but it’s toxic to blur lines/realities. Leads to destroying them. Our responsibility is to know better.
Aside from invasive properties, it’s not healthy to assign the roles of real life friendships and relationships to someone you have on a pedestal. It dilutes actual relationships and healthy expectations within them and leads to shattered self esteem when pay out never arrives.
Mental health is a serious prob - right now more than ever. But especially in the social media age where we connect both more & less. Creating bubbles based on wish upon a star dreams just becomes a crutch and we all need to do better for ourselves. Treat ourselves better. /fin
