I’m seeing a lot “women in the Church” talks on the tl and I’d like to point out that there is an incredible inprotance put on women when it comes to the entire Church, which starts with the “small” churches - each families within the whole.
It is indeed very important that a wife and mother, through grace and true femininity, nurture the home in such a way that Christ is the center, in all that is done and said.
When people speak about the imprtoance of femininity in my mind this refers to home making. True Christian homemaking creates an environment where Christ is the center. From there, schooling the children continues this Christian relationship, & deepens it through a new generation
The role of the female in the Church is talked about a lot - and i see this continuing theme that “women are at the root” and although that’s true, I think it’s important to talk about what true womanhood used to look like and what true femininity should be.
We don’t want this false narrative that women acting like men - careers, no kids, no teaching, too busy for religion - are these same women that are at the root of the Church. I’m not meaning to slam women who aren’t called to be mothers, or women who are called to careers.
Through answering their calls, they are surely fulfilling a holy lifestyle. But I do believe the line needs to be drawn. Having children and raising them at home in the Church is a big, big deal when it comes to the growing of the Church, but also its health.
Fulton Sheen explains the importance of women in society quite well: “When a man loves a woman, he has to become worthy of her.
The higher her virtue, the more noble her character, the more devoted she is to truth, justice, goodness, the more a man has to aspire to be worthy of her. The history of civilization could actually be written in terms of the level of its women.”
Thinking of it this way, it places the health of a society, the Church, and each individual family on the beginnings of womanhood. There’s a relationship here; women live in Him, and devote themselves to Truth, and through a similar love and devotion, men aspire up.
A similar relationship occurs with the raising of children, who will soon become those same men and women helping each other to grow in Truth. But this raising of children does not occur without 1) mothers and 2) home makers.
So my main intent with this thread is to open up a subcategory when we talk about the roles women play in the Church. There are nuns, consecrated virgins, singles, there are those called to work and no children, and there are those called to raise and home make.
All are super important, yet very different. I just wanted to shed some light on why women in the Church, especially this type (since it’s my type and I don’t have much authority to speak of others) are such pillars for the Church.
Many times, people use Mary to explain how important women can be for the Church. But they don’t focus in exactly on the details. But I think they’re important, since we live in a society that sees those details to be unnecessary. Children don’t need to be homeschooled.
They don’t need to be raised at home. They don’t need to be taught how to cook and clean, how to pray. And women don’t need to stay home. There are “alternatives.” And please don’t be mistake - these “alternatives” are not what make women important in the Church, but redundant.
