. @rapha I love your stuff but this is extremely irresponsible - the incidence of eating disorders in cycling is horrendous - yes I’ve heard the ‘legends’ too - they are good for no one!
Had lots of ‘interest’ in this - most agree, but some think I am a ❄️ or need to ‘get a life’ - that view is valid. Why I react is because of my own fat-shaming and eating issues when I was racing and the anorexia and bulimia I saw in my team mates - pic recent London 100
This is me in 1990 - the same year a coach called me a “fat pudding” - I was told to forget the road and concentrate on track because of being ‘overweight’
I was a teenager - I tried eating nothing but rice and apple for a week until I collapsed in a clothes shop! We’d chew chocolate bars and then spit them out - many did much worse and have a life time issue with food - here’s me feeling fat - Moscow 89
It’s not a silly message on a bottle - it’s an instruction for those kids who are desperate to achieve- who will take whatever ‘legend’ they can find to do what the pros do - sport has no meaning other than to encourage the young @rapha need to do better
My further thoughts following pick up in various places and explaining much more than I can in a tweet - hopefully shining a light on something a lot of us dont talk about.
