“Look at this amazing device we created that no disabled person could afford so that we don’t have to build ramps or elevators to make the public accessible to anyone who is not able bodied.” https://twitter.com/mashable/status/1287882205876781057
ALSO this looks fucking terrifying. What if the chair suddenly breaks down on the steps? What am I gonna do then?
& just to clarify I am not from America. I know how corrupt the system is out there - especially for disabled people - & I know we have it slightly better in the uk.
But people in the UK are still dying at an alarming rate because we are underfunded as disabled people.

& also I’m a huge advocate for ramps & elevators not only because I use a wheelchair sometimes but because I, like many others, cannot walk well upstairs.
Not everyone who uses a ramp uses a wheelchair!

Congrats to the companies for “thinking of disabled peoples access” but why can’t we have our basic needs met now?
Why is it “yay for them designing an expensive wheelchair” but we still can’t get simple access?

This is NOT an attack on the students - this tweet was me venting but it also proves my point. If students can create something like this then why can’t companies or the government provide BASIC access needs?????
I am genuinely extremely fatigued now & need to rest. I will reply to who I can tomorrow but PLEASE read through my other replies for answers to any questions you may have.
But my basic argument is this:
Multiple wheelchairs like this have been created. MULTIPLE. By different companies.
If companies want to help disabled people create what’s in demand. Ramps.
If students can create a damn wheelchair then the government can create ramps.

I’m no longer replying to comments on this tweet.
