You run a B2B SaaS company and looking to hire your first sales rep? Who should the first rep be? How do you hire? I've got some thoughts on this (a thread)
/ Remember first you don't have a well oiled machine so be open about it. There are people out there that thrive in an environment like this.
/ You'll want this person to learn so they CANNOT CANNOT BE ALL ABOUT THE MONEY. They should have the DNA of a sales rep and a product marketer
/ They need to really understand and empathize with the buyer. Having them create, or refresh your Ideal Customer Profile & Buyer's Journey is 🔑 (free download: https://gumroad.com/products/azZMQ/edit)
/ Define the profile of the person first - what you want them to be like? How should they operate in specific situations?
/ Write the JD. Be absolutely clear it's the first hire. I've got some good examples of how to draft a low-stress, high outcome compensation plan, but DO NOT make your first sales hire the best sales rep out there and do not hire someone junior that CAN'T iterate when they lose.
