hi. the working parents I know, and prob most you know, are currently coming to grips with the fact that there is no end in sight and kinda losing their shit. Here's what it looked like for me this morning: got up "late" at 330am. Freaked out bc kids were up early at 615.
I'm not sharing this for pity, just because I don't think people without young kids at home get just how bad this is. And then these man children running the country, who mostly had no hand in actually raising their kids, barking orders as though their words dictate reality 🤯
none of this is new, it's just more ubiquitous and obvious. in the same way this country wants individuals to solve every other systemic issue (the climate crisis, racial inequality, all of it), it expects individual families to come up w/their own solutions on everything.
and then you wonder why people think they can just have their own approach to a fucking global pandemic. of course they do! they've been told to craft an individual solution to *every other problem* and now here we are. A country full of people who think their opinions trump fact
Also FOR THE LOVE OF GOD stop telling working parents how lucky we are to have jobs right now. It's only "lucky" in the context of the objective failure of governance in this country. I *am* glad I can make income while at home. But lucky? That would be support. We have none.
America is "getting back to work" by breaking the backs of working parents and/or putting underpaid teachers at risk. How the FUCK is that "lucky" except in a situation where your expectations are so insanely low that anything less than physical torture seems like a real win?
