The scale of the eviction crisis requires working to keep people in their homes, by any means necessary. That includes moratoriums, payment assistance and suspension, *and* legal counsel. https://twitter.com/just_shelter/status/1288462804324962304
This pre-dates the pandemic. Black renters were 2x more likely to be filed against for eviction. In MA, black women were 3x more likely to face filing, just to have the case dismissed, a neg mark that can stay on a credit report for 7 years, anyway! https://www.aclu.org/news/racial-justice/clearing-the-record-how-eviction-sealing-laws-can-advance-housing-access-for-women-of-color/
The CARES Act established a (now expired) eviction moratorium, which only covered ~40% of renters. We need a national blanket moratorium.
That said, here’s what landlords were doing even under the moratorium— http://www.propublica.org/article/despite-federal-ban-landlords-are-still-moving-to-evict-people-during-the-pandemic
