Thread 1/5: As the Jewish World editor of a leading Israeli news outlet, who has lived in the Holy Land for over 20 years, I can 100% see how @Sethrogen came to these (jokey) conclusions: Israel ‘doesn’t make sense,’ can’t safeguard Jewish people https://www.timesofisrael.com/israel-doesnt-make-sense-cant-safeguard-jewish-people-says-seth-rogen/
/5 In countless interviews I've had with young Diaspora Jews in my decades in journalism, I've heard innumerable times that they feel like their Jewish education was a lie. That they were shown maps that wipe out the reality of the West Bank. And given no historical context.
/5 Educators should portray a realistic, accurate picture of the Jewish state. But I have to wonder, in today's 'woke' culture and with a mainstream media that disproportionately covers Israel and alleged Israeli crimes -- how could one be surprised by the fact of Palestinians?
/5 The island of Israel, floating in a sea of antipathy in the Mideast, founded on land that has been settled by many peoples over many era, may or may not be a safeguard to the Jews. But @Sethrogen, speaks to another force that keeps the Jewish people a nation -- anti-Semitism
/5 @Sethrogen, whom I've always adored as an Canadian-accented actor portraying EveryJew, says he increasingly respects Jewish culture as he matures. I have a feeling that as anti-Semitism continues to rage, he'll increasingly respect the sole port in a global anti-Semitic storm
