If I was a long-term stakeholder in the University of Portsmouth I'd ask myself a few questions in light of today's announcement about the UEB's 'unanimous' decision to axe half the (predominantly female) Eng Lit team. (1) https://www.port.ac.uk/about-us/structure-and-governance/our-people/university-executive-board
(2) I'd ask myself where the members of this board (excl Matthew Weait who is incorrectly listed) will be in 5-10 years once the wider effect of redundancies like these are realised. How many will still be at UoP? How many will have retired on substantial pay packets?
(3)How many are seriously invested in the long term reputation of UoP? How many will make these changes then swiftly move on to 'bigger and better things'? Which other departments will also be deemed economically unviable in future?
(4) As @SaveUoPLit have shown, this decision is near-sighted, poorly justified & not research-led. If your Executive Board aren't safeguarding the long term value of the institution they serve, what good are they?
(5)As a Humanities PhD graduate from UoP I have no confidence in the UEB or their decision making processes. Stakeholders should question their rationale and how much they actually represent what's best for the University, its staff, students & local community in the long term.
