Can we create a social norm about recording Zoom meetings? A proposal:
The record button is not pressed until everyone answers in Private Chat to the host or designee their agreement to be recorded.
One NO means no recording (or person chooses to leave). 1/4
I've been in several meetings lately where the Record light is on. After the last one, I made the decision that in future, I would ask the purpose of the recording, and ask that the Zoom meeting not be recorded without express permission of all attendees. 2/4
It would be weird and intrusive if you put a video camera in a conference room every meeting, and in some states you might need permission to record. Just because it's unobtrusive to record meetings on Zoom, please think hard about why you're doing it. And get consent. 3/4
If you're recording Zoom meetings by default, why? Do you ever re-watch them? Do you strip out the audio file for automatic transcription? What's the purpose? Why don't you announce the recording and ask permission? 4/4
