Sometimes it’s pity: oh you poor thing. Sometimes it’s derision: well you obviously aren’t good enough to get published. Sometimes it’s ridicule: why would anyone want to read that? You’re not a real author...
It couldn’t possibly be because traditional publishers basically rob you blind. It couldn’t possibly be that I don’t want to fork over 15% of my money to an agent I’ll never meet in person. It couldn’t possibly be that I don’t have 2 to 3 years to wait to start making money...
People just right away make assumptions about you, about your quality, about your worth when you are self-publishing. That you are less than. I hate that...and it makes me feel embarrassed...and I hate that it makes me feel embarrassed.
I even read an article in Huffpost that called self-published authors the lepers of the literary world. I just wish we could get to a place where we recognize talent for talent, not just recognize those who were lucky enough or had the resources or had connections...
So I say let’s change perceptions...let’s show all the naysayers, all the ones who look down their nose at us that we are just as good...sometimes better! Support indie authors and artists!! Ok rant over
