But first, you might be thinking these gaps are the result of some groups of students doing really well.
That's not the case.
The gaps are the result of some students falling really far behind.

When schools closed some districts responded quickly.
In Glastonbury, students were sent home with an iPad and internet access. On it were all the learning platforms students would need to resume learning online.
Students in Bridgeport got worksheets. https://ctmirror.org/2020/03/19/two-districts-two-very-different-plans-for-students-while-school-is-out-indefinitely/

The state quickly teamed up with @DalioEducation to get 50k computers in the hands of high school students in the state's 33 poorest districts. https://ctmirror.org/2020/03/23/laptops-headed-to-students-in-struggling-school-districts-so-learning-can-resume/
Months later a full picture of CT's digital divide became clear.
In the poorest districts, 1-in-10 students need the internet & 1-in-5 need a computer
The result?
Half the students didn’t participate – or did so minimally – in remote learning. https://ctmirror.org/2020/07/01/heres-how-much-education-students-lost-when-schools-shut-down/

Everyone seems to agree that returning to schools is what is best for students.
But if schools must close as the pandemic lingers, what is the next best option?
Live classes online
Huge obstacles stand in the way of making that a reality, however. https://ctmirror.org/2020/07/28/a-quarter-of-ct-students-went-mia-when-covid-closed-schools-could-holding-live-online-classes-lure-them-back/

Yesterday, @GovNedLamont announced plans to spend $43 million of the money sent to CT from the federal Cares Act to try and provide universal access for students to computers and the internet. https://ctmirror.org/2020/07/28/state-will-provide-students-with-universal-internet-and-computer-access-during-pandemic/
