Four years ago, I saw a #tiger in the wild for the first time. I wasn’t with @WWFINDIA or @wwfsg at the time and didn’t quite understand the #conservation debate as well. But there was somethings I noticed about the entire experience. #GlobalTigerDay2020 🐅
The first - wildlife tourists can be entitled pricks. Can’t believe I have to spell this out but when you are in a #tigerhabitat, the tiger does NOT owe you a sighting. You are in THEIR home. Some respect for living beings and the forest in general would be nice.
Second, in places where #tigers live, there is SO MUCH #biodiversity. I wish I had photos but we saw ungulates, deers, over 10 species of birds and even the tiger’s nemesis - a #blackcoatedleopard.
FINALLY, #humanwildlifeconflict is real. Habitat loss leads them to close contact with human beings, and my parents’ residential area in #Gurgaon even has issues sharing space with #straydogs. Can’t imagine how #wildlife lovers would react if there was a tiger in our backyards.
OK this is the last one - but none of this means we can’t #coexist. We can and we should and we must. #GlobalTigerDay2020 should be a day we fight for environmental justice and coexistence wherever we are.
