The reason I would never sign a contract with this government has nothing to do with money. It's about a complete lack of trust. When contracts aren't contracts, their is no partnership, and the minister has declared open war on this provinces physicians. 1/
But the government loves to make this about money, and is in fact about to release a 'sunshine list' with what doctors make, which will undoubtably show GROSS billings, and not NET. Because that's how they roll, and they want to convince you docs are greedy 2/
To that I say, bring it on. I am an ER doc, in one of Alberta's largest and busiest hospitals and ERs. You don't really want to come see me, and if you do, you're probably not having a great day. 3/
Accidents and illness happen to all of us. Heart attacks, car accidents, stabbed minding your own business, headache that turns out to be a brain tumor, broken limbs. You name it, I'll see and treat you for it. Oh, lets not forget about this COVID thing. 4/
Second wave is upon us, numbers are about where they were when we shut everything down. Everytime I go to work, my coworkers and myself put ourselves in harms way. 5/
For that privilege, we GROSS what you see in the chart below. That includes benefits whatsoever, including sick leave. What happens when I get the sniffles? In the COVID era, off for 2 weeks. 6/ https://twitter.com/EZMSA2/status/1288265002667798528?s=20
Also doesn't account for professional dues, malpractice insurance, and other overhead. Once all that is accounted for, I might make a little more than Matt Wolf ($220k+) if I'm not mistaken. 7/
Not to mention the lost opportunity cost of 12 years of post secondary schooling and training, including some weeks as a resident when I distinctly remember working close to 110hr/wk. We're not just talking income, delayed family because of school also. 8/
So no, I make no apologies for making about the same amount as the Premier's shit-tweeting, compulsively lying, truth bending assclown. And I'll bet you he gets benefits, both contractual, and 'insider'. 9/
Ask Kris Moen. He used to get them, before he forgot to use his inside voice. Probably getting re-programmed and a stern talking to about not showing off his secret decoder ring in public anymore. 10/
But to stress again. I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE MONEY. Shandro can publish it all he wants. I'd willingly take a pay cut as the @Albertadoctors has proposed, if only our government would take a step back and see what the underlying issue is. LACK OF TRUST. 11/
No sane person would sign a contract with their boss who tore up their last contract, continually insults, slanders, and belittles them. Said boss also gave himself the ability to tear up their new contract, even if I was crazy enough to sign it. 12/
So lets just call this what it is. The government has refused/ignored an offer from @Albertadoctors essentially offering them what they are asking for. It makes clear they aren't after 'cost certainty'. It's about control, breaking the AMA, and privitazation. 13/
American-style Healthcare makes their corporate friends rich, and Albertan's health care will suffer, unless you have boatloads of cash, or 'insider access'. And a lot of your docs will leave. This isn't fantasy, anyone remember the Klein era? 14/
Kenney is taking the Klein playbook, and infusing some Trump, and a lot of 'Shock Doctrine'. So it's time to stand up for your health care AB. Education too, but that's another thread, for someone better versed in that area than me.

Get mad. Let your MLAs know.

FIN.
