People do this shit where they engage in bad faith arguments as if they can be refuted. They can’t, it’s like nailing jello to a wall. The argument isn’t the point, the pretext to exert power is the point.
“Well AG Barr’s arguments against vote by mail are illogical” of course they fucking are, he made them up because people need some sop to eat to pretend making it harder to vote is anything but a naked power grab. Just push harder for vote by mail.
“Well the police believe cutting their budgets will lead to chaos but actually...” shut the fuck up and just cut their budgets, they will say anything to hold onto their power and that power needs to be broken hard.
This isn’t some Socratic revery on the nature of truth, it’s fucking war and you’re trying to argue down bullets when they’ll just reload and fire again. Acrue power and use it.
If you see someone who will gladly beat and demolish the defenseless then you don’t need to argue them out of their position. You’re free of that. Find out how to break them. Take all their money. Drive them out of any position of power.
Bad actors need consequences or they will just continue to come back into power. Barr was in the Reagan and George H.W. Bush administrations. He wrote the legal justification for rendition, allowing the FBI to arrest suspects on foreign sole without the foreign nations permission
He omitted information when called before Congress about this but paid no penalty for any of it. He’s now been attorney general twice, helped get Iran-Contra conspirators pardoned and is now helping keep Trump’s cronies out of prison.
People like that need their careers destroyed early. There is no argument to be had with them, they aren’t interested in debate, they’ll say whatever will get them away with whatever they just did or are trying to do.
Police unions push for more and more freedom from accountability even though everyone knows how dangerous that is. There is no debate here, departments need to be gutted and police unions brought to heel. If not then soon there will be no civilian control left.
Exercise power, institute consequences, keep long memories and start driving bastards out wherever you can. Stop arguing.
