As Mitsubishi are pulling out of Europe I thought this would be a good opportunity for me to sum up the current range which may shed some light on why they have taken this descision, especially as I worked for a Mitsubishi main dealer a few years ago.
Mirage:
Designed for Thailand, it should have been priced in line with the Sandero but instead was inline with the Fiesta. Base model didn't include central locking and the parcel shelf (which was 8 inches long) was a £200 option! Facelift was better and full of kit - still crap.
ASX:
The ASX was the car you didn't want to sell. The base model retailed at £500 less than the dealer could buy it in from Mitsubishi. With more facelifts than a Hollywood pensioner and questionable engine choices, it is, at least, better than a Mokka. But then, so is walking.
Eclipse-Cross:
No idea to be honest as it came out just after I left but you know the public don't understand it when Mitsubishi have to tweet the dimensions so that you know where it fits in the range:

Outlander:
Probably the best car they currently sell, initially only available with a PSA diesel, it didn't sell well as everyone bought a PHEV (coming next). Mitsubishi thought it would be a good idea to drop the diesel and replace with an NA petrol that barely cracks 30mpg!
Outlander PHEV:
Right car at the right time but that time has long gone now and Mitsubishi haven't kept up with the competition. Not as clever as you think either as it is just the running gear from an iMiev shoehorned into a petrol Outlander.
L200:
The Series 3 was an epic piece of good marketing. The problem is Ford, VW, & Nissan cottoned on and do a better job (though I will concede the L200 is less likely to snap in half). They always felt barried as they were tarted up in Bristol when they came of the boat.
Shogun:
I know this went last year but it deserves a mention. MMC's most iconic car after the Evo, yet the "current" Shogun was just a heavy facelift of the 3rd gen which came out 20 years ago. It needed a V6 but instead had to make do with a lumpy 3.2 4 pot. Another dated car.
Shogun Sport:
Again, released after I left but I'll say a few words. I've never seen one so I assume that as a pickup based SUV, nobody wants it. After all, if you want a pick-up, you buy a pick-up. If you want an SUV, you buy an SUV
As a side note, it's worth noting the age of these designs:
Mirage: 8 years
ASX: 10 years
Eclipse-Cross: 3 years
Outlander: 8 years (PHEV: 6 years)
L200: 5 years (1 year since HEAVY facelift)
Shogun: 20 years (14 since heavy facelift)
Shogun Sport: 5 years (2 years in UK)
With the exception of the Eclipse-Cross and L200/Shogun-Sport, everything else is either due replacement or massively outdated (or mosly both) and it seems Mitsubishi have run out of money to sort this out. As sad as it is, pulling out seems to be a logical thing to do.
It's been pointed out by someone with far more knowledge than me that the PHEV tweet had incorrect information so I've removed it.
