Kamala Harris has accumulated a record that is out of step with today's Democratic Party. As AG she was hard on poor people and soft on big corporations. She was a tough on crime self-described "top cop" who let white-collar criminals in finance and tech skate free.
If Biden picks Harris as VP, it would be a clear sign that he does not support he ways in which the party has changed over the past decade, and is not interested in understanding those changes.
We've had uprisings in every American city this summer over criminal justice. As DA and AG, Harris was a very conventional "tough on crime" Democrat, in which "crime" excluded wealthy, politically connected people.
That was the way Democrats were in the 1990s and 2000s. She wasn't an extraordinary outlier. But a Harris VP pick would make very clear that Biden likes that vision for the Democratic Party.
