A Thread 🧵 on the how i started praying my 5 daily Salah again

RT so this can benefit someone else In Shaa Allah
Boom so there were a few steps to it and imma try to explain this in the easiest way possible

Step 1: Going back to basics. Wallahi this is an essential first step. Reinforcing the foundations of your salah is actually so so so important, the small things matter
There are small things that we may do incorrectly that we could correct improve our salah overall.

It is also beneficial to learn the basics of Salah, ie; what to receit when ur in rukuu, or sujood, the proper way to position yourself, learning the names of these postions etc
The basics even comes down to doing Wudhu. Wudhu is an essential step to your Salah and making sure you are clean is one of the most important fundamentals. You have to make sure you know the basics of wudhu and how to perform it properly
A part of learning the basics is making sure you know at least 10 surah. If you dont know 10 for whatever reason, then the easiest to learn are the last 10 Surah of the Quran, they are easiest to learn. Theres no shame in not knowing these things, so long you are willing to learn
Even if you know 10 surah, its good to learn some more. I say at least 10 btw because you have to recite a surah (Apart from Al-Fatiha) 10 times a day (compulsory prayers).

And with the 10 that you do know, learning the meanings behind can be very beneficial
Also one very important thing i want to mention before moving onto the next step

There’s absolutely no shame in asking for help. Even if you think what you’re asking is trivial and basic, its better to ask for guidance than to do it wrong
Step 2: Perspective

Perspective is arguably the most important step. My problem with performing salah is that I simply didnt see the value in it. Salah was a chore for me and this is the reality for a lot of muslims, a few people can relate. I was praying to avoid being scoldeda
Changing perspective comes down to educating yourself about the purpose of Salah. Regardless of the fact that Salah is one of the 5 pillars of Islam, and that it separates us from the non-believers, it is essential for your well-being and the success of your endeavours
The best way for me to describe Salah is as soul food.

Our bodies are made of this earth, therefore we must feed it with the food of this earth. Whereas our souls are not of this earth, our souls are of the heavens. Allah (SWT) blew Ruh (soul or spirit) into us
In the same way that our bodies become weak and fragile, and we become sluggish and lazy when we dont feed it, the same concept applies to our souls

Our souls can only be fed with the food of heaven, which is Salah/ Prayer
Once you start viewing your Salah as soul food it becomes a lot easier to start performing it. Salah is beneficial and necessary in the same way eating our 5 a day is. 5 fruits a day to keep the body healthy, 5 prayers a day to keep the soul healthy,Anything you add is beneficial
This new perception of mine made praying my Salah much easier. It was no longer a chore but something that i WANTED to do.

The benefits go beyond just your soul, it positively impacts your life and mental wellbeing as well, Many others can verify and say the same
Step 3: Establishing routine

Once you’ve learnt the basics and etiquette of Salah, and your knowledge of the Quran, and you’ve changed your perspective of Salah, it is now time to start establishing a routine
It takes 21 days to build a habit, but in this case we’re gonna call it a Routine. It takes 21 days to build a routine, and 90 days to build a lifestyle. Not long at all is it?!
For me, the best way to start establishing this routine was using a calendar. At the end of every day that I prayed my 5 daily salah, I would reward myself by ticking off the day

Note: Even if i prayed late, the idea was to establish the routine of prayers so it still counted
Whilst this may not sound like a big thing, theres actually quite a bit of psychology behind celebrating your small wins

Reportedly, celebrating small accomplishments actually produces dopamine (the reward chemical) which leads to increased happiness and motivation
So with a mix of psychology hacks, life skills and the fundamentals I was eventually able to start praying my 5 daily Salah with ease.

Its been nearly 7 months since i’ve missed a Salah Alhamdullilah. May Allah grant me goodness and keep me steadfast on my journey. Ameen!
And If you made it to the end of this thread, May Allah also grant you goodness, prosperity and more blessings, and May He also keep you steadfast and grant you the strength to keep going. Ameen!!

In Shaa Allah we can all get closer to Allah (SWT) together
And if you have any other useful tips or any feedback pls share them🥺, Jazakhallah Khayran❤️
Its been brought to my attention that the establishment of a routine can be especially hard for a woman (due to their periods), and this can make it hard to return to Salah

A sister has recommended that the best way to maintain your connection is reading 1 page of Quran a day
A suggestion is perhaps at Salah time, you read a page of Quran, or perhaps do some Dhikr, or watch some stories of the prophet as a replacement for Salah in order to maintain the connection until you're ready and able to pray again

Allah knows best
If you have any suggestions on the best way to establish routine as a woman, send them through In Shaa Allah
