"...you are worldly. For since there is jealousy and dissension among you, are you not worldly?" 1 Cor 3:3

Tribalism is evidence of worldliness, not Christ-like maturity.
Clarifying comments...

1. It is perfectly fine to have an affinity/appreciation for a particular pastor/ministry’s teaching.

Ungodly Tribalism, however, is a fleshly fruit of self-righteousness that assumes “our” teacher is the “faithful one” and dissenters are always deceived.
2. It is appropriate & necessary for Christians to challenge one another in areas of doctrine & practice.

Paul challenged Peter (Gal. 2) b/c he was sinning. But if we assume “our leader” is always the corrector, we risk becoming uncorrectable & blinded to our own errors.
3. There are times pastors part ways necessarily. Yet, tribalism tempts us to demonize those we disagree with. Paul never would have cancelled Barnabas or Barnabas cancel Paul. They parted, even sharply, but it’s impossible to believe they’d be taking Twitter shots at each other.
4. Tribalism tempts us to assume that “Jesus loves you, but we’re His favorite.” Let us remember that many of the religious leaders of Jesus’ day (and those who followed them) were blind to their sin in a way that led them to work against Jesus’ ministry.
5. Let us engage in disagreement in a way that keeps the Day of Judgment in view. Every slanderous word and digging tweet against Jesus’ bride will be unveiled before Him.

I trust that on the Last Day we will wish we had shown more charity toward those with whom we now disagree.
