Here are some ways that universities can help working parents right now.
By this I mean faculty and staff who are doing care labor at home.
1. Use your purchasing power to find discounts on food delivery
2. Make those discounts available for us so that we aren't cooking 1000 meals a week.
3. Open up institutional discounts on computers and laptops to working parents so that we can set our kids up for the fall.
4. Loan administrative time to help organize parents into teaching and childcare timeshare.
5. At least pretend to be listening when we talk.
6. Don't schedule teaching, meetings or advising during difficult times like evenings.
7. Give childcare stipends to faculty and staff, equally.
8. Pay for our increased phone and internet use or at least subsidize it.
Yeah right.
