Look, some of you guys, the O types, I luv ya. I follow because you’re good people. But, you have a glaring blind spot. No one is arguing that recruiting is predatory. No one is saying they were victimized by military recruiting. We are saying, and a few of you have been
dismissive of this, that military recruiting finds a target rich environment in areas that lack good, well funded educational systems, basic infrastructure and access to basic living standards, and access to opportunities.

Jacksonville, Fl, Duval County, is a magnet school
program. You can go to your neighborhood school or attend a magnet, but transportation is in you for the latter; wasn’t always that way. So, there’s two schools with medical magnet programs, probably more, but two for this example. One, is a college prep program. It’s across the
street from a prominent hospital, most of the kids who go there are the children of said medical professionals or families with an income level for a SAHP to provide transportation. The second was rated one of the worst schools in Florida and is in the hood, the real hood, not
white people hood. Drugs, gang violence, prostitution, and tbh, the best fried chicken and garlic crab joint in Jax. Their medical magnet provides a CNA certification upon graduation. Not college prep, no doctors coming across the street as visiting lecturers, no STEM recruiters
from biomedical engineering corporations...CNA certificates so they can get a job as soon as they graduate.

Where do you think the recruiters set up shop?

The military can be a great thing for people looking to escape poverty, no one will argue otherwise. I mean, if you’re
offer me three squares a day, free healthcare, shit pay, and a 10x10 room with a roommate and no criminal record, that’s a pretty clear choice, but any notion that the military doesn’t take advantage of this vacuum created by poverty is ludicrous. Don’t dismiss our experiences.
Don’t tell me that the kids in some bougie ass part of town who’s school looks like a college campus and multiple college prep programs is recruited as hard as the poor schools and the dropouts. That’s just utter bullshit.
