"algorithm changes gender prediction from female to male when dr. is added" is so bafflingly bad that I am ALMOST surprised that such a bad algorithm was knowingly released into the world, that no one thought to test for exactly this if only in anticipation of bad PR.

like, are we 100% sure this whole thing isn't just trolling?
Also um... not to bury the other issue, but... there is no warning when you type something in to try genderify's algorithm, your search term is DISPLAYED ON THEIR HOME PAGE without warning.
at least we know that genderify is getting appropriate feedback
I'm increasingly convinced this whole thing is trolling. Partly because the algorithm is so bad it seems essentially random, not even taking into account the implications.

Unsurprisingly I woke up to a bunch of replies explaining to me (because obviously I don’t know) how machine learning works.
It’s not the ALGORITHM it’s the TRAINING DATA.
