1996: Exercise Pitch Black saw a greater American presence with @USAirForce F-16s, KC-10s, B-52s, and E-3As.
1996: @TheRSAF returned with F-16s, E-2Cs, KC-130B Hercules tankers, & A-4 Skyhawks. #AusAirForce
involvement included F/A-18s, F-111Cs, & Boeing 707 air-to-air tankers. @USMC F/A-18 Hornets also flew alongside our No. 75 Squadron Hornets from RAAF Base Tindal for the first time.

1996: The subject of Airborne Early Warning and Control capability for the #AusAirForce
was also topical, with both Blue and Orange Forces supported by their own surveillance aircraft for the first time.

1997: A quieter exercise, with just #AusAirForce
and @TheRSAF – the latter flying F-16s, A-4s, and KC-130Bs. Our F-111Cs participated with F/A-18s, C-130s, and B-707 tankers

1997: Here’s an Easter Egg - Can you recognise the pilot of this Hornet? Here’s a hint – that’s not his name on the side….
1998: @RoyalAirForce debuted at Exercise Pitch Black with an E-3D Sentry and 2 C-130K Hercules. @TheRSAF brought A-4s, F-16s, E-2Cs, and KC-130Bs.
1998: The #AusAirForce
participated with F/A-18s, F-111s, C-130s, B-707s, and a P-3C. It was the Macchis Pitch Black farewell, flown by No. 79SQN at Tindal for the Ex.

1998: While past Pitch Black exercises involved Airborne Early Warning & Control aircraft in an air defence role, this exercise saw the E-3D and E-2C used extensively in the strike direction role.
