ive been expressing my support for zionism and going against what seth rogen said in the interview, but i also acknowledge that the way jewish institutions teach about israel is highly flawed. hereâs a thread
jewish institutions need to do a better job teaching about the conflict. the reason that people donât trust the pro-israel information theyâve learned is because itâs told in a one-sided way
so then when people who have been raised believing that israel is perfect hear about all of israelâs wrongdoings, they lose their belief in any and all of the information that they were told by their jewish zionist institutions
the alternative to this is that kids will grow up believing everything theyâre told about israel and then reject anything else. thatâs also not good because itâs not raising jewish kids to think critically about israel and the conflict
and obviously not every product of jewish and israel education goes down one of these two paths; iâve found that a lot of jews (like myself) remain zionist and pro-israel while also understanding that the israeli government is corrupt and has done many bad things
so i think that educators should know that exposing jewish kids (or teens really) to multiple perspectives wonât automatically make them a hardcore anti-zionist
that happens when their information is biased to give them one side of the story: the side where israel is right all the time, which is not the case
we are capable of recognizing israelâs flaws while also striving to make it better so that our love for israel can grow exponentially
tbh when i entered progressive online spaces in middle school i would get so upset because everyone hated israel and i didnât fully know why and i wasnât given the tools and education to defend myself
so basically... teaching teens about israel from the lens of facts rather than support will make them even better pro-israel advocates because theyâll actually know what theyâre talking about.
