Thread: Several people have asked me what they can do to help for the upcoming election. There are the obvious things of making phone calls and donating money, but there is one really big thing that you can do, which you may not have considered. 1/
Each year, an army of good citizens, mostly elderly, work all day from 5am to 9:30pm on election day to make sure you and I get to exercise out right to vote. In normal years we can almost take this for granted. This is not a normal year. /2
This year, we will likely have the largest turnout in history AND it will be in the middle of a pandemic. Not everyone can vote in person or vote early. We NEED people at each and every polling place, working to ensure the orderly execution of the election. /3
But, this year, many of the usual people won't be able to do it, because they are in an at-risk population. And, some percentage will have to call in sick on election day if they so much as have a sniffle, in order to avoid the risk of exposing others. /4
If you are healthy and not at undue risk, please consider requesting election day off from work, sign up and train to be a polling inspector. It requires a brief training now, + commitment to work on election day. It is a paid job. (You get to be a hero AND get paid!) /5
The training is going on now. In Onondaga County, you can learn more here. http://www.ongov.net/elections/electionInspectors.html
In other places, please just call your local board of elections. The need is dire. You can be the hero that helps ensure everyone's right to vote is protected. /END
