George Floyd is conveniently excluded from this narrative because he was choked to death and not shot by police. Gamel Brown isn’t included either. Or Tina Davis. Or Manuel Ellis. There are so many unarmed people killed by police tasers, none of which are included in the WaPo police shootings database (where that Barr stat came from). Same for police chokeholds/restraints. Barr is citing WaPo strategically to try to minimize the scale of police violence.

And that’s not even including all the people who police said were armed but weren’t, people with toys or spoons or objects WaPo doesn’t code as “unarmed”, people with knives who would not have been killed by police in other countries, people who had a gun but didn’t use it, etc.
