People dont talk about how Fidel Castro and Brazilian communist architect Oscar Niemeyer were close friends

So heres a small thread
Niemeyer was a great fan a admirer of the cuban revolution and goverment and gifted this sculpture to Castro in 2008, Castro put it in the University of Havana, it depicts a brave human with the flag of cuba fighting a monster (imperialism)
Castro once (jokingly) said he and Niemeyer were the last communists on the planet
When Niemeyer died at age 104 in 2012, Fidel and Raúl sent flower crowns (like the huge ones, not the tumblr ones) to his funeral :( “to the unconditional friend of cuba, from Fidel Castro” “dear friend Niemeyer from Raúl Castro” and even the embassador sent one
Niemeyer is responsible for all these iconic buildings:

-National Congress of Brazil
-Cathedral of Brasilia
-Palacio do Planalto (Plateau Palace) the presidential workplace
-Palacio da Alvorada (Dawn Palace) the presidential house
-UN headquarters (New York)
(He was actually shy about this project made with ten architects including his hero Corbuseir, but they all loved it, edited a bit and accepted it with honors)
-Communist Party of France Headquarters
-Passarela do Samba/Samba Catwalk
-Copan Building
-Ibirapuera Park
-Constantine University (Algeria)
-Administrative Center of Minas Gerais.
-The Oscar Niemeyer Museum
-Museum of Contemporarary art in Niterói
-Oscar Niemeyer International Cultural Center (Aviles, Asturias, Spain)
-“Hand”, Latin American Memorial.
-“Flower” (Paris, France)
-“Fight against Imperialism” Universidad de las ciencias informaticas (Havana, Cuba)
