It's official. $25/day child care will end for remaining families next March. This marks the end to any plan for universal quality childcare, the refusal to use the strongest economic recovery tool at our disposal & the active decision to push women out of the workforce. #ableg
Let's talk about the results of the 3rd party evaluation of the $25/day pilot project that came out in February 2020. For some reason, Minister @rebeccakschulz never talks about this report or references its conclusions. This is why. #ableg

Report - in 2 years, the $25/day pilot project increased accessiblity by creating 1740 new spaces, including 664 spaces in rural communities. Compare that to last week's announcement of creating 384 spaces in 1 year. #ableg
Report - $25/day centres enrolled as many low income families as other centres (in fact, a little higher). Low income families eligible for full subsidy at $25/day centres paid $0/month. Now, these families will pay an avg of $300-$700/month, even with full subsidy. #ableg
Report - $25/day centres had fewer licensing non-compliances, improved staff retention, & higher qualified staff. Parents were more likely to highly satisfied w/ quality of care & viewing educators as professionals. #ableg
Report -women w/ children in $25/day centres had increased labour force attachment, were more likely to return to work full-time, go back to school, accept more reponsibility at work & report a positive impact on their career. #ableg
The report concluded the $25/day pilot project was meeting its objectives of affordability, accessibility & quality. It's clear that expanding the project across the province would have significant benefits for all Alberta families. #ableg
Yes, expanding universal affordable childcare requires a significant investment. We costed it to be $1 billion. Less than a 1/4 of what the current govt has given away to profitable corporations through a corporate tax cut. And it more than pays for itself. #ableg
The decision to end $25/day child care is a loss not only to those families affected, but to those who desperately need it & our economic recovery. It pushes more women out of the workforce & deprives children of greater access to quality early childhood education. #ableg
I can assure Albertans that I will not stop advocating for universal affordable childcare. The fact that @jkenney, @rebeccakschulz & @LeelaAheer refuse to listen won't stop me. Because Albertans are listening and they deserve better than what this govt is giving them. #ableg
