I know a lot of folks want to support student press or independent journalism but can't afford to subscribe or donate. Here's a thread on other ways to support your favourite journos (and @TheMartlet) if you don't have money!
If you like us, tell us! When people recognize my work it is the best feeling ever. Even a simple "yea I read that one" goes a long way.
Like and share your favourite articles. It's best if you can do this from our social media pages (either the journalist's or the organization's) so that we gain more engagement on the post.
Have regular convos with your friends about the news. Ask them what they are reading, send each other links to cool articles. Critique the news you guys consume.
I know we are all dating from a distance right now. Sending people articles and seeing what news they consume is a big indicator of where their politics are and what issues they care about. (Do I get every boy that ever dates me to read the Martlet? Yea absolutely.)
But seriously, you don't have to be DMing friends links all day long. If you're talking about something and you know there is a relevant Martlet article you've read about it, ask them if they've read it. That's all!
I work alone in a basement office in the uni and write stories. I hope that people read them but sometimes it feels like no one does. And honestly, it's just really weird to be reporting during a pandemic.
So, please send some love to the people that write what you read.
