Absolutely thrilled for my buddy Desmond Fogarty; his gelding Venture Forth won the 7th at @lonestarpark. But the story here is a good one. And Desmond doesn’t have twitter so I’ll tell a piece of it, in this thread. (1/4)
Desmond got the horse from @JuddmonteFarms a few years ago and trained him into a few races in later 2018, including one at Great Meadows (Hunt course) in Virginia as @jim_the_lip pointed out. In his last start of 2018, he bowed a tendon, explains his poor performance. (2/4)
Desmond slowly worked on the tendon to get the horse right, an awfully steep undertaking, considering time and money involved. A year plus later, the gelding was cruising 2-min miles regularly, long gallops, plenty of stamina building in his comeback. It was fun to watch. (3/4)
Desmond didn’t breeze the horse much, in fact just twice, which is a testament to his approach with the returning horse. In late June, he finished a decent fourth off an 18 month layoff. That’s a win in itself. Today, he won. Job well done by horse and trainer/owner. (4/4)
@joeclancy65 may appreciate this with Desmond’s steeplechase background.
