Kepa is near enough two years older than Onana by the way. The language used when describing Onana in comparison to the language that used to be used when discussing/describing Kepa (before the penny finally dropped) is quite interesting.

Whilst Onana isn’t a perfect goalkeeper, he is excellent & 100% has the capacity to grow and be even better. His statistics indicate as such. The ideology that he’s “only a bit better than Kepa” is an absolute lie lol. In fact, it’s so asinine it’s borderline insanity.

There is a significant gap in quality. Significant. Kepa never showed potential or promise of being a good goalkeeper. In fact, on the day he signed, I remember reading a detailed analytical review and article about Kepa by @StatsBomb. I was worried.

I then decided to watch some games at Bilbao. To cross reference the “weaknesses” and “averageness” that they statsbomb article highlighted to me...and I was mortified. I sent the article to @chessyhour_dan in a panic saying #CFC might have just made a MASSIVE error.

In contrast, Onana’s stats are exceptional & shows all the sorts of promise that a keeper with fantastic capabilities eould. The stats back the eye test & vice Versa. Is he capable of errors? Yes. Are they frequent? No. The very best make little errors. Yes, even Oblak

Would I prefer Oblak? Yes. Because Oblak is the best keeper in the world arguably. But whilst this may be the case, one thing I wouldn’t appreciate is the dishonesty about Onana. If you don’t want him, fine. Your prorogative and that’s okay. But saying he’s poor is odd.

The level of unwarranted grace and allowances that Kepa has received by our fans is incredible lol.

Wherever Onana goes I hope he continues to excel.
