Our society and culture are in grave danger from narcissists and psychopaths. They look normal, they sound normal, but they are deeply abnormal.

Failing to screen these people out; worse, rewarding them for their behaviour, is destroying so much that is good and valuable.

People think psychopaths are axe-wielding freaks. They're not. They're profoundly amoral, narcissistic, controlling people who can be very successful precisely BECAUSE of those traits. They're clergymen, surgeons, CEOs, politicians.

I think there is some evidence to suggest that a "critical mass" can be reached that turns an entire culture psychopathic.

I think the obsession with personal autonomy at all costs, accumulation of wealth, and power that obtains in the Anglophone west has crossed that line.

Psychopathic organisations like Fox News create a feedback loop with their audience, creating an aggressive collective psychosis, and all of society suffers. We have reached the logical end point of "freedom" (per Karl Popper) where it has toppled into exploitation and abuse.
