I was a life long, active Republican. I served terms on our county Republican central committee & as president of our local Republican Women Federated club. Now I am embarrassed it took me so long to leave.
I had bought into their line that they were the party of “family values.” I started seeing that they weren’t my values. Much of what I was for the GOP was against- protecting the environment & wildlife, common sense gun control, & helping the poor.
The GOP went extreme- crazy gun nuts, conspiracy theorists etc. It wasn’t until I stopped watching Fox News that my brain fog started to clear. I was slowly backing away but it wasn’t until they nominated Trump that I was stripped of my denials of what the party had become.
I voted Hillary & changed to Independent for a year & then to Democrat. I created a Twitter account in 2015 but did not understand it or use it. I became active on Facebook & liberal groups there provided emotional support as we went through the horrors of the last 4 years.
I lost friends and family over Trump & my liberal Facebook groups really helped me through. I decided that my purpose at this stage of my life is to fight for our country. Shortly after deciding this, I was invited to become a moderator for a group started by @ReallyAmerican1.
As a moderator for Really American Activists, I got to know @NathanMackBrown, who organized us moderators. He eventually asked me if I wanted to help him with efforts he is working on here, & he helped me launch my account, with my first tweet that was liked by over 57,000 folks.
Now I see how powerful Twitter is. I'm not sure what I did to deserve the support from you all, but I'm thankful you are helping this 68 year old Republican, turned Trump resistor, to do my part to save our country!
I just hope to inspire more Republicans to join me.
