I should have submitted a panel for a virtual con.

Call it "What Community Management ISN'T about."
You know what, fuck it, let's get a thread going.

It's DEFINITELY not about being a target for abuse that you expect to be suffered silently or politely. Let's get that one out of the way.

We're not the dog you kick when you've had a bad day.
The concept that "professionalism" in community management means taking shit for the sake of taking shit?

GTFOH.

You can opt out of communities with your actions and the CM will let you know in case you didn't realize you just did that.
Because all of these communities are completely extra. You bought a game, and the CM is not going to come to your house and take your copy away. But they sure as shit will block/ban/otherwise erase you from the channels that the community resides on.
And you can be mad and scream in a pillow instead of the CMs face.

Because part of community management is keeping a HEALTHY AND PRODUCTIVE community.

Your toxic ass can kick rocks.
You might think that last line in the tweet prior is "uNpRoFeSsIoNaL" but you also might be one of those toxic ass people, kickin' rocks.

Keep kickin' down the road, slim.
And don't think "Oh so I can't criticize the game now?!?"

Cause you TOTALLY can. Like a feckin' adult.

Like you would expect someone to criticize something you work on. Ya know, while still treating you like a human.
Here's a quick barometer before you go off from this thread and into a world of fuckery:

If it would get you kicked out of WalMart, don't bring that shit to a CM.

And if you do, don't be surprised when there you are, kickin' rocks.
And if you're a new CM thinking you gotta tolerate this to maintain in this industry, don't fall for that trap.

No one should expect that of you. I don't care if they also have stories of dealing with toxicity. Cool.
Too many Leads in this industry have that weird high school bully attitude about taking knocks from community.

They wanna regale you with stories of their exp. Like cool, we share that misery. Let's umm work to change that?
It's too often used to make CMs feel like a complaint about that abuse is a sign they "can't hack it" or whatever and it takes an industry full of impostor syndrome and amplifies it.

That's bullshit.
Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

Reply to this thread with a "But, actually" if you wanna feel what the block is like.

Blocks are free and I'm handing them out like party favors.
